Game idea and Documentation

In this portfolio I am going to explain and show my game idea using various reasons as why it is difficult to make an idea and the obstacles in the way to finally producing a game. I will be showings the do's and do nots within making a game, the market research for the game, its target platform and ideas for the game to improve it and following its genre.

My game idea is involving a own mind creation which has not been produced by any other market or by film so its a game with its original intellectual property. Known as a IP and will not franchise any game or any Movie so there will be no copyright or royalties needed to pay the companies who own the Movie or game rights. I am going to make since it will be all thought out and made without a copy of any other character. With the terrain been the world and the music been made also by imagination there will be no franchise within the game.

my target audience for my game would be 15-25 as it will have violence,swearing but no blood or gore within the game. it will be approved as 15+ since the swearing will not be wanted to be told to young children. it will be online and tag team in some cases but usually one versus one. It will be possible for 2 player story mode as the story will have a more free terrain look  and will be able to pick up health ammo for weapons and allot of other variety pick ups such as slow down enemies and armour for extra health reduction. The story itself is very linear and involves going from one mission to the next.

Its main similarity is games like dead or alive or Tekken which are both successful games within the game market however the charatacters and storyline are all different so it could be franchised by the fact it is the same gernre and same view of fighting but it is not the same as the other games.this is a brainstorm picture i created of the game itself.

 I plan to make the game suitable for the teenager young adult kind as it is the most appealing to that age group it will be advertised online on websites such as face book at times like 4-10 pm as that is the time young adults and teenagers are home from school / college /university and are on university or watching television on channels such as Bravo, BBC1 and BBC2.

The main game platform this game will be on is Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 as they are the most used and most played consoles within the age group  12-25 so it would appeal to them more directly than at inappropriate times where they are either asleep or in college or school/college/ university.

The idea of the game is unlocking every charatcer within the fighting game and unlocking more costumes for more entertainment and to unlock new places. the trophies/ achievements/ rewards will be unlocked in story mode single player, multiplayer and online play as it will give the viewer a better chance to unlock using a variety of challenges than just winning certain battles all over again. The menu will be scroll based as it looks very appealling to most fightin games as shown below.

As this picture is designed it shows a good appeal to the game in background showing a more appeal as the game is searched through and usually the background would have fighting and music in the menu to listen 2 as the gameplay continues and the waitin for the players command. If the player takes too long to move a trailer of the game which is within the game will appear showing the charatcers and some fighting. The game itself is unisex based which means it isn't just made to be played by only one gender as it will be able to play on both characters genders and will appeal to girls as well as boys. As the picture shows its very appealing and gives the mood to thre artists a help with the game design and the charatcers look feel and emotions within the game. It can also help give the game more detail of the clothes they would wear and the way they would speak or react in the situations. Their speech will all be English so they will be able to understand each other. I hope the game itself doesn't lag while online and offline.

Up for a brawl any time, any weather, any place this games got it all with stunning terrain weather and fighters, be it team battle or solo, online or offline.

Features

  • very detailed players with detailed animations and environments.
  • choose your teams by fighting styles and dominate all that challenge you. unlock new character with new styles and enjoy the detail of the characters looks and styles of fighting.
  • Enjoy the  30 metres length fighting arenas with added obstacles and destructive terrain which can be used to knock the opponent into.
  • In this fighting matches each person has their own unique counters and moves  to manoeuvres and take on enemies. each with their own power speed dodge endurance and move control difficulty. they all have their own unique combos to help gain a advantage within a fight.
  • If the game is limited with time then the one with the most damage taken within the fight loses and the winner been the one who takes the least.
  • The idea within the game is to unlock all the character and become the best fighter within the game with remembering that the endurance of a character means health and dodge been the amount of luck evading a enemies attack.
  • health is affected by the endurance of a character however it will always remain at 100 to show 100% health and once it reaches 0 that player is knocked out.
  • rules within the game is simple fight the opponent until there is a winner by attacking and counters with the added bonus of hitting them into walls or knocking them down stairs for added damage.
  • usual crowd cheering in some environments while in others cars may appear and attack any player within that spot by simply running over them making the environment get a chance to deal damage as well as the players.
Player Motivation

players can choose from  unlimited time to a set limit and from survival to team battle with a variety of players modes and environments and the main win is to beat the opponent.

Target Customer


Aimed at fighting fans who enjoy games which involve beating the opponent up. Age 12+ mainly male but can be female also who play games that are already made such as Tekken and Dead or Alive. aimed at both core and casual gamers.

Competition


Tekken, Dead or Alive but those games lack a bit on the speed engine when online which is were i will fix and also i will have a few more game modes available.

Unique Selling Points



  • fighting with a  twist where you can win even in the most unlikely situations
  • fight in the most strangest of places from a restaurant in china to a  church tower in London
  • its a game where the skills withinn the game make the winning chance nand not just whoever knocks out the other opponent firsdt wins with all new strategy mode.
  • combo count mode where you can make a combo and see how long it lasts. longer the combo on the charatcer the more money you recieve in order to buy items for your charatcers been costume pieces or unique weapons
  • within story mode when fighting a survival of thugs/ gangsetrs/ psycopaths who attempt to beat you as soon as possible. ( this is a mini game within the story where you can unlock weapons and costumes that are not available anywhere else)
  • If unlocking all the costumes that are apparently available for that charatcer e.g if it bsays 30 and yoiu recieve them all then you can unlock 5 more secret costues like beach look, hobo/maid look / playbunny look/ devil look and their own style look.
Target Hardware

Main target is playstation 3 but could be possible to be played on xbox360. might eventually be made onto pc software.

Design Goals

Simple yet complex.- can go from straight forward easy to use combos  to long really hard combos with each one dealing from low to very high damage witht he speed of the character involving in the comboes.

Speed- this game is made to be as fast as a real life fight would be and no laggs within the game toprevent unappeal as the game would look really uneffiecient if it lagged

Effiency within the teams- every team is made with their own skill s and tag moves but some may involve special unique moves making the game more interesting and help develop a championship team

It isn't always about the winnings- some games will involve conditions where you will have to survive as long as you can and others were you will have to earn a certain amount of money within combo counter or another where you will have to survive for 15 minutes in a survival using 2 certain charattcers making the game a challenge but a enjoyment at the same time.

Characters

In the game every charatcer has their own endurance, power, speed, dodge and move control difficulty and however they look their stats will never change throughout the game. they will all be balanced in a way for some people to lie and others 2 like another way. In storty mode u can chahnge the stats of the charatcer a bit for your liking in story mode but  in any othrer mode it will be changed bac to their unique stats. move control will never change regardless of the character customisation in story mode.

Steve- Steve is the all rounder he has no weaknessses but he has no real strengths either. he is a all round fighter .He uses a street fighting style.

John- john is a good friend of steve as them been childhood friends. he was hospitalised by theodors crazy driving and now he is in hospital while steve goes out to pay the bills. he uses a simular fighting style to steve.

Phil- Phil is a dj or at least once before he was banned from a pub due to him attacking a body guard who framed him for drug abuse so he now trains as a martial artist and aims to prove his talent with the speed he has and his ways of attacking randomly and always giving the opponent a surprise attack.

Angela- She is  a Spanish fighter  who uses karate learned from her Japanese father she has a job at a school in gym teaching them fitness so she goes to prove her strength to the children to show how strong she is.

Zany- he is a drunkern boxer. he is a joke telling guy when he speaks to his opponents and has a crazy made style. his sanity became lost when he lost his best friend at a young age and he goes to their grave every week to respect them and show respects.

Max- he is a brute force of destruction. he is a pro wrestler and is in the tournament for his test of strength against the world after been crowned champion in his tournament he also likes to see how strong his enemies are also so he can do a test of his power against theirs.

Theodor-he is the main rival to Steve as they used to be good friends. Theodor  was once a psychopathic killer who used to kill people for fun after losing his granddad when some criminal stabbed him in the chest thinking it was funny. now traumatised  and in a killing mood he goes out to show that he is to be feared in wrestling but also to try and get his sanity back or a way to find his sanity back before he kills everyone.

3D Fighting side view look with realistic graphics and stunning environments with their own unique obstacles within the game against other humans in the world.

There is no copyright of any charatcers or films within the game market nright now which makes the original with no copyright laws needed for the charatcers or film that it will be made by. the cars and logos within the games will also be made originally unless a certain company would like to sponsor our game and that way we could get their logos or cars/ charatcers within the game to make the game interesting as long as they agree to the game sponsorship with a contract saying they agree to put their merchandise within the game.

Gameplay Highlights

This game will involve items like tables, chairs tyres, doors and baseball bats which can be thrown, knock the enemy onto or even used on the enemy/enemies.
the speed will be varified depending on the charatcers level of difficulty and will be unable to fight others at a higher difficulty until you have reached that difficulty for fair fighting styles.
The enviroments are very detailed and very appealing in the game with very good backgrounf details and alsot he advantage of the background been a part of the game also when it comes to damaging the enemy.
tricky AI which can go from easy to complete master of  intense fighting royale for all the training needs you will need and the challenge within the game itself.

Online Play

the game includes a online play it will provide itself with a single fight of 1 vs 1, team fight to up to 5vs 5, a survival with a friend online and other solo or tag choices.

Online story: got bored with the single player story well it can be played online and with a friend for mroe entertainment. It will also consider a online survival in story so that way you can get money and new costumes.
Online ranking: ranks to show how good your fighting skills are with a certain character compared to the others in the world and the actual online ranking of your skills, so you could be the best player using Steve but only rank 500 in the world.

Hardware


The main target platform intense fighting royale will be the playstation 3 however within time after the sales of it on the Playstation 3 it maybe convert to work on the Xbox 360 also and also the Nintendo Wii but with less graphics on the Nintendo Wii as its software is not as highly detailed. the fighting game will be used by the controllers but for the Wii it could be possible by motion or by the classic controller depending on the customers buy and possibly for the pc also depending on the sales on the Playstation 3 then Xbox 360.

Production Details

We have completed making some of the maps and the characters but it is not fully ready as the battle system is still not complete and the different mode types still need to be completed. the graphics are not as expected yet either so we are trying to get more income so that the graphics are in the top standards right now.

Development team


The development team involves a project manager who is familiarized with the team already with very qualified skills they worked for Sony once before as a project manager.
I have a 3d modeller who has been given a honours degree within 3d modelling so he is very familiar and very adept with 3d modelling he has worked in architecture before as a house modeller.
I have a concept artist who has worked in other games such as guilty gear also so his creative skills are very wanted.
The team also consists of a audio engineer who has worked within games like dead or alive and ninja gaiden so he is very qualified to work within the team.
There will be actors like Christopher Sabat to help with the voices of the characters as he is a very well known voice actor as he has played many amine characters.
We also have a 3d animator who had a  previous job was working in Shrek Movies.

Budget

As we are not complete with the development of the game it is hard to give a full detail of the money that will be needed but on estimation it will be around 5 to 7million pounds

Schedule


As this is a big job and we are near 20% complete in it we will most likely be finished in march 2012 and be set on sale within July 2012

Competition

my game will be in competition with Tekken made by Namco and dead or alive which is made by Tecmo. Tekken is usually on both the Playstation and the Xbox and the dead or alive series is on one or the other which can give them both financial record of which console it sells better on. mine is planned to be sold on the Playstation as it has the better graphics of the 2. my key ingredient is to make the Online play a lot more entertaining than Tekken and dead or alive as theirs usually lagged. the new dead or alive is expected to be delivered in the march of 2011. and the new Tekken game is still showing no clue to when it will be released as the new game has recently been released within a year so the time for the next Tekken is unknown.

Game World

Intense Fighting Royale will have stunning 3D realistic view and non playable charatcers to buy items, fight or even team up with.
The player can choose what their characters look like and customise them.
The online play will be top notch and should not have any issues. If there are issues the staff will find them and fix them before the release to make sure the game has no major disadvantages.
In the game you can pick up random weapons from bricks to baseball bats to help defeat the enemies in single player, multiplayer or story mode.
Within the game you can drive around and conquer the streets and eventually the world with your fighting characters and the team you've made.

Back story

Steve was a really nice guy with his friend John but then one day his good friend Theodor was driving carelessly with his friend one day and ran over John and just laughed. this made Steve very angry so he went to find Theodor as Theodor didn't even notice what he did as he was completely mind lost. Steve is now trying to earn money in fighting tournaments to help pay the hospital bill for John and in doing so he helps train himself better and finding ways to get closer to Theodor to make him pay.

Objective

You are Steve a average fighter who is aiming to get money for Johns hospital bill but finds out his job is harder than it looks where he meets a lot of friends and enemies within the tournament and meets the secret as why Theodor ran him over on purpose unlocking ancient pasts and meeting friends along the way.

Characters

 Steve Philip Johnson.(drawing not very accurate to how Steve will look)
the all rounder and main character to the game. he has a easy to use street fighting style which he likes using.
Steve joined intense fighting royale after John was ran over by his old friend Theodor. Now with payments to be made he is entering the intense fighting royale to pay for Johns bills and to find out what happened to his friend Theodor.

Theodor Patrick Davids (Picture not drawn as accurate as theodor will look)
theodor is the main rival to steve in the game he is a very cheerful joker character. he lost his sanity for the loss of his granddad in a cruel way and ant to find the killer. with his sanity gone and steve angry with what he did to john theodor must go alone to find his real killer. His fighting style is a serious yet confusing style known as "what he wants best" which involves other type of fighting style moves but with a twist of his own way of using them as he could use a wrestling power slam into a  judo kick which means he has very complicated combos but with good results if they are successfull.

Gamma-598
This oddly named creature is the main boss in intense fighting royal. He is a superhuman who was developed by the research lab. He was designed to be a army soldier to help defend the country against wars but he had a mix up of chemicals when he was been produced and now he has a killer instinct to anyone who tries to get in his way. He brainwashed Theodor in the story and has been mind controlling him ever since. He is created within the american science museum and is sometimes seen throughout the story.

The other characters within the game are still under production and do not have fully developed pictures as of the production details since the maps are still been made as well.

Story progression 

The way the game works in story is the first few missions involve tutorials to help understand how you fight in the game. This will involve fighting a training dummy or a actual character depending on the moves. when in story mode after the training missions you enter small tournaments in the game at the local areas and eventually get invited to go to bigger tournaments. it also involves fighting outside the tournaments for extra cash and for good karma by saving people or helping them. eventually paying for Johns bills and then going into bigger tournaments and in the later missions you start finding the main rival Theodor and the back story to why he ran over John in the car without a care.
Whilst in the story mode it gets to the point at a certain time where some mutants appear and try to kill you so Theodor can live and control the world even though he is been brainwashed by a super human named Gamma-598. Your role in the story is to find the Gamma-598 and to defeat him once and for all.
while in story mode you can buy items for healing when on the streets and weapons and clothes for the look or the bonuses however the bonus increase is only in story mode so the style of the character will have to suit your style. in story mode at some point later in the mission there will be a lot harder enemies and more difficult tasks but the rewards will be much better rewards such as hidden costumes and money. The money can be used in the game for healing items if needed, costumes for the characters, weapons for the characters to use and finally unlocking secret tournaments which can give really good rewards and costumes for the character. even when the story is finished all the way to the end you can always go back to the story and compete in tournaments and tasks you have not completed and improve the reward from previous missions.
